The courtyard of this FishTown, PA residence gets refurbished in order to beautify and update the neglected area. Working with Anna Prinzo of "digs" and her team in Philly, I was able to work remotely for all on-site design changes needed during the construction phase. The result was an affordable change with a big impact.
Before

What resembled commercial fences flanking both neighbors sides, created an eye sore and lacked any privacy for the owners. The three steps down from the kitchens back door were too narrow, and had no required side rails. An obtrusive air conditioning unit, added to the unsightly dilapidated space.

This courtyard was redesigned with a custom CUMARU wood stair system that now provides the family with safer access to the back and an elevated seating area off the kitchen. The upper platform spans the entire width of the yard, flows seamlessly into the expanded stair system and down to the maintenance free, manicured loose stone patio. Building a custom wood privacy fence allowed us to hide the unsightly air unit and presented an ideal location for the raised planting bed which added softness to the hardscape.
